Permanent Makeup FAQ

1. What is permanent makeup?
Permanent makeup (also known as PMU or cosmetic tattooing) is a technique that implants pigment into the skin to enhance natural features such as eyebrows, lips, and eyeliner. It creates long-lasting results and reduces the need for daily makeup.
2. Is permanent makeup the same as a traditional tattoo?
No. PMU uses specialized pigments designed to fade naturally over time and sits more superficially in the skin compared to traditional tattoo ink. The goal is to enhance features—not create a permanent design.
3. How long does permanent makeup last?
Results typically last 1–3 years, depending on skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare. Touch-ups are recommended every 12–18 months to maintain shape and color.
4. Does permanent makeup hurt?
Most clients report mild discomfort rather than pain. We use high-quality numbing agents to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure.
5. What is the healing process like?
Healing takes about 7–10 days on the surface and 4–6 weeks underneath. You may experience mild redness, flaking, and itching. Color appears darker at first and lightens by 30–50% as it heals. A perfecting touch-up is required 6–8 weeks after the initial session.
6. What’s the difference between microblading, powder brows, and combo brows?
-
Microblading: Hair-like strokes for a natural look
-
Powder/Ombre Brows: Soft shaded finish, similar to makeup
-
Combo Brows: Hair strokes + shading for definition and fullness
We’ll help you choose the best method for your skin and goals.
7. Who is not a good candidate for PMU?
PMU may not be suitable if you:
-
Are pregnant or breastfeeding
-
Have uncontrolled diabetes
-
Are on Accutane (must stop 6–12 months prior)
-
Have active skin infections or eczema in the area
-
Have a history of keloid scarring
A consultation is required to ensure you’re a candidate.
8. What should I do before my appointment?
-
Avoid alcohol and caffeine 24 hours prior
-
Stop retinol or exfoliants 7 days before
-
Avoid Botox 2 weeks before
-
For lip blush: hydrate and exfoliate lips for 3 days before
-
Bring inspiration photos if you have a preferred style
9. What should I avoid after my appointment?
For 7–10 days, avoid sweating, sun exposure, swimming, saunas, makeup in the treated area, and picking or scratching. Proper aftercare is crucial for best results.
10. Is permanent makeup safe?
Yes—when performed by a licensed and trained professional following strict hygiene and safety protocols. We only use high-quality pigments and sterile, single-use tools.
11. Can I get PMU if I have oily or mature skin?
Yes! Certain techniques work better for different skin types. Powder brows are ideal for oily skin. Your technician will customize your treatment.
12. Will PMU look natural?
Absolutely! Our goal is soft, flattering enhancement—not harsh or overdone results. We customize shape, color, and style to complement your features and face shape.
13. What if I had previous permanent makeup done elsewhere?
We require a consultation before booking. In some cases, color correction or removal may be needed before new work can be done.
14. Can I choose the color and shape?
Yes! We map your brows or lips carefully and choose pigment shades based on your undertones, skin tone, and preferences. Nothing is tattooed until you approve the shape.
15. Why do I need a touch-up?
The initial session builds your base shape and color. The 6–8 week touch-up perfects the details, fills areas that didn’t retain pigment, and ensures even, long-lasting results.
